๐ Baby Sleep: What's Normal?
Newborns sleep 14-17 hours but in short bursts. By 3 months, longer stretches develop. By 6 months, many babies can sleep 6-8 hours. Every baby is different โ "sleeping through the night" has a wide range of normal.
๐ด Mom's Sleep Matters Too
Sleep deprivation is real and serious. Ask for help with night feeds, sleep when baby sleeps (yes, really), and know that it's okay to prioritize your own rest. A rested parent is a better parent. You can't pour from an empty cup.
๐๏ธ Safe Sleep Basics
ABCs of safe sleep: Alone, on their Back, in a Crib. Firm flat surface, no loose bedding. Room-sharing (not bed-sharing) for the first 6 months reduces SIDS risk by up to 50%.
๐ง Wind-Down Routines
A consistent bedtime routine signals sleep time: dim lights 30 min before, warm bath, gentle massage, quiet feeding, white noise. Works for babies AND moms. Give yourself permission to have a calming ritual too.
โ๏ธ Nap Tips for Baby
Watch wake windows (not the clock): newborns 45-90 min, 3-6 months 1.5-2.5 hrs, 6-12 months 2-3.5 hrs. Overtired babies fight sleep harder. Catching those early drowsy cues saves everyone tears.
